JoAnn Towery, 76, of Pottsboro, Texas, passed away on July 20, 2025. She was born on March 10, 1949, in Denison, Texas, to Jack and Mary (Pearson) Cassell.
JoAnn grew up in Pottsboro and graduated from Pottsboro High School. Shortly after graduation, she began a long and successful career in banking, where she worked for over 30 years before retiring. Never one to remain idle, she later earned a degree in elementary education, further showcasing her dedication to lifelong learning and service.
She was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Pottsboro, Texas, where she faithfully served as the church secretary for many years. JoAnn was the longest-serving member of the congregation prior to its merger with another church—a reflection of her lifelong commitment to her faith community. Her presence and dedication to the church family were a vital part of the congregation’s life.
On May 29, 1971, JoAnn married the love of her life, Bill Towery. Together they built a life filled with love, family, and strong values. JoAnn was a devoted wife, a proud and loving grandmother, and a cherished friend to many.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Towery of Pottsboro, Texas; her son, Mark Towery of Pottsboro, Texas; grandchildren, Mallory Towery and Hunter Mullennix, along with their mother, Cathy Towery; siblings, Larry Cassell and wife Deborah of Lone Oak, Texas, and Thelma Dagenais and husband Mike of Denison, Texas; brothers-in-law, Jim Towery and wife Donna, and David Towery and wife Robin, all of Pottsboro, Texas; sister-in-law, Tonya Himes and husband Dave of Panama City, Florida; special family friend, Conne Cassell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Beth Renee Towery; her brother, David Cassell; and her parents, Jack and Mary Cassell.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many medical organizations throughout Grayson County who provided care and support to JoAnn over the years.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Johnson-Moore Pottsboro Chapel, 511 FM 120, Pottsboro, Texas 75076. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will follow at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
