Clarence Leon Short, 85, life long resident of Willow Springs Community, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2014.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Denison Pottsboro Chapel. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Denison Pottsboro Chapel with Jimmy Stegall and Jeramie Sweet officiating. Burial will follow in Georgetown Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Stan Short, Scott Short, Matthew Short, Connor Sweet, David Sweet, Call Scarbrough, Jeff Scarbrough and Jack Shely.
Leon was born in the Willow Springs Community on November 4, 1928, the son of Clarence L. and Ethel Mae Wisdom Short. He was educated in the Willow Springs School and was a 1946 graduate of Denison High School. He and Mary Margaret Daugherty were married on September 28, 1951 at the home of Otto Johnson in Denison. Leon worked for Kraft, Safeway and Conway Oil before retiring from AGP in 1993. He was a member of the Church of Christ, serving as an elder and song leader for the Willow Springs Church of Christ for nearly 4 decades. He also served as preacher for Willow Springs Church for several years. He is a former school board trustee for Willow Springs School and for Pottsboro I.S.D.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Margaret Short; sons, Stephen Short and his wife, Brenda of Burneyville, Oklahoma and Timothy Short of Willow Springs Community; daughters, Annette Shely and her husband, Jack of Cherokee, Texas and Jennifer Sweet and her husband, David of Denison; brothers, James "Sonny" Short of Pottsboro and Gene Short of Willow Springs Community; sisters, Wanda Letson of Weatherford, Texas, Linda Cook and Donna Towery both of Pottsboro; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.L.and Ethel Mae Wisdom Short; brother, Clyde Short and sister, Lillian Marie Burkham.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Victory Home Hospice, 301 W. Sam Rayburn, Bonham, TX 75418 or Grayson County Meals on Wheels, 4114 Airport Dr., Denison, TX 75020.
