Nell Fleetwood Mitchel, 78, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026.
Nell was born on September 18, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to George and Elizabeth Bixler. Nell graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas before attending East Texas State University, where she earned a master’s degree in Psychology, LPC.
On June 9, 1995, she married Donald Mitchel in Victoria, Texas. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and serving others.
From 1996 to 1998, Nell worked as a prison psychologist for the Texas Department of Corrections in Beeville, Texas. She later opened her own practice as a Christian psychologist, where she spent many years counseling individuals and families.
Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a member of Bible Church in Victoria and later attended First Baptist Church in Whitesboro, Texas.
Nell will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her listening ear, and the genuine care she showed to others. Whether through her work, her faith, or her family, she always sought to encourage and help those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Bixler and her sister, Betsy Cargill.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Donald Mitchel; her children, Mary Christine Barrett, Jacob Wayman, Karen Lindsey, and Laura Eddings; her sister, Ruth Hayes; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, Texas 75020.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial at DFW National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Dallas Theological Seminary, in honor of Nell’s lifelong Christian faith and dedication to helping others.
