Harley Gene Alyea

Harley “Gene” Alyea passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, strength, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on April 8, 1940. Gene lived with a larger-than-life personality that drew people to him wherever he went. He had a commanding presence, a quick wit, and a generous heart. He never met a stranger, and those fortunate enough to know him will remember his generosity and his sense of humor.

After a successful career in corporate finance in Los Angeles, California, Gene and his beloved wife, Cherie, made the decision to begin a new chapter in Denison, Texas, in 1976. It was there they built a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. Denison remained his home for the rest of his life.

Of all the roles Gene held, none meant more to him than being a husband and father. Cherie was the love of his life, his greatest partner, and his best friend. Together they shared nearly 63 years of marriage, a remarkable journey built on love, loyalty, and unwavering commitment. This August, they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Gene was the kind of father every daughter hopes to have, steadfast, protective, encouraging, and endlessly proud. He believed in showing up, lending a hand, offering advice, and making sure his family always knew they were loved. His strength gave them confidence, his humor brought them joy, and his example taught them what integrity, perseverance, and unconditional love truly looked like.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cherie Alyea; his daughters, Stephanie Harris and her husband, Jonathan; Kristin Alyea and her husband, Mark Powers; and Melissa Dickey and her husband, Scott. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Ryan Harris, Alexis Dickey, and Sophia Dickey.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (“Bob”) Alyea and Marg Alyea, and his brother, Darnell Alyea.

Gene lived life on his own terms—with confidence, determination, and a heart that was as big as his personality. He leaves behind countless memories, stories that will be told for years to come, and a family forever shaped by his love and guidance. While his absence leaves an immeasurable void, those who knew and loved him find comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the lives he touched.
