Beth Bowling

Our Mom was born and raised in Denison, TX until we moved to Lake Texoma in 1972. She passed away on October 29, 2026, in Denison, Texas. She was born on March 2, 1929, to W.K. Hilliard and Elizabeth (Compton) Hilliard in Denison, TX.

Our Mom married our Dad (Gene Bowling) March 24, 1948 in Denison, Texas. The wedding ceremony was performed at her parent’s home. She designed her pink satin two-piece wedding dress and had it custom made by a friend. They were married for 56 years until our Dad’s passing in May 2004.

Mom and Dad purchased Chief Office Supply, located on Main St in Denison, from my Mom’s mother and they ran it together until the late 1970’s when they sold the store.  Mom then went to work for Grayson County in 1979 and became Grayson County Voter Registrar for 10 years- a job she was so very proud of.  She retired in September 1989.

From there they wanted to travel. So, as our folks always did things their own way, they built a customized camper trailer on a pick-up truck and took out on adventures across the USA. They traveled to many National Parks, into Canada and up thru Alaska. Colorado was always their favorite- Rocky Mountain National Park- lots of pictures from there.

Mom developed a keen interest in genealogy and family history. She took great pride in researching her family ancestry, including identifying 21 patriots in her family tree, with family history dating back to the American Revolution and before. She joined DAR in 2016 and enjoyed the friendship and all the interesting speakers. During her time there she was the librarian for a few years and thoroughly enjoyed researching books to give to the library in honor of speakers at the meetings.

They were both members of Lakeway United Methodist Church in Pottsboro for many years. After COVID and after her walking became much worse, she watched the service on-line and never missed a service. She knew all the hymns by heart and sang right along with the congregation. She was always so proud of the choir as she and my Dad had both been in the choir for many years.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Moore and husband David of Pampa, Texas, Claire Brice and husband Gerald of Pottsboro, and John Bowling and wife Cindi of Arlington, Texas; four grandsons-Kyle, Christopher, Peter and John; and one great-grandchild on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Bowling, in 2004, and her parents, William K. and Elizabeth Hilliard.

  1. So sorry for your loss. I lived around the corner from your entire family in the 1300 block of Munson Street from 1963 until I got married in 1969. I did business with your parents as well. They were always so nice and helpful.
