John Ross "PePaw" Cox, 86, died at Texoma Medical Center on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Denison Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at Denison Church of the Nazarene, 2710 W. Crawford St. at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013. Reverend David Pettigrew will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedarlawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the Honor Guard from Fort Worth Naval Air Station. Serving as pallbearers are, Zeke Johnson, Owen Mott, Tommy Badgett, Darin Johnson, Garrett Clark and Kelly Polston. Honorary pallbearer is Gavin Clark.
John was born in Whitesboro, Texas on May 15, 1926, the son of Rad and Vera Raulston Cox. He attended Gainesville High School. John and Sue Clodfelter were married on January 14, 1949 in Gainesville. He worked for Southwestern Bell for 41 years as a telephone man. He attended Church of Christ churches, was a member of Lone Star Masonic Lodge #403 A.F. & A.M., member of the Scottish Rite-Dallas, member of the NRA. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy on the destroyer, USS Black in the Pacific Theatre.
Surviving John are his wife of 63 years, Sue Cox of Denison; son, Richard Ross Cox of Abilene, Texas; daughter, Johnnie Sue Johnson and her husband, Will of Denison; brother, Brady Cox of Rowlett, Texas; sister, Dortha David of Van Buren, Arkansas; grandchildren, Kerri Clark and her husband, Chance of Whitesboro, Texas and Laci Polston and her husband, Kelly of Denison; two great-grandsons, Garrett and Gavin Clark of Whitehouse, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Randy Cox.
