John Thomas Butcher Jr., 86, of Denison, Texas, passed away September 10, 2026, in College Station, Texas. He was born August 21, 1940, in Denison to John Thomas Butcher Sr. and Opal Marie Pace.
John served in the United States Air Force as a military police officer. He later attended Texas A&M University in the 1970s.
John had a lifelong interest in learning and was an avid reader, particularly books about military and war history. He also enjoyed watching Westerns and history programs. Gardening was another interest of his, where he grew peppers and orchids. He was also a Mason and was active in the organization for many years.
Later in life, John cared for his mother while working with the local school district, where he managed various aspects of the transportation department.
He is survived by his sister, Judy Williamson and husband, Stewart, of Winona, Texas; nieces and nephews, Paul Ralph Segars Jr. and wife, Dawn, of College Station, Texas, Dennis Williamson and wife, Andrea, of Sachse, Texas, and Wendy Williamson and husband, Rick Morgeson, of Hurst, Texas; along with other extended family members.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his sister, Peggy Marie Segars.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2026, at Fairview Cemetery in Denison, Texas. Family and friends are invited to visitation from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, Texas 75020.
